Obituary for Helen McGregor (Hawkins)

Helen is reunited with her love, husband and best friend Ronald Gordon McGregor, to whom she was married for over 63 years. Caring mother of Linda (Mike) Newton of Calgary, Alberta. Predeceased by her parents Harry “Buck” and Mary Hawkins. Born in the Township of York, Helen lived most of her life in the Toronto area. She and Ron moved to Brantford after retirement. Studying in bookkeeping and accounting, Helen worked for York Township Hydro, Transport Canada and Sears Canada. She formed many lasting friendships during her career. Helen was active throughout her life, enjoying sports such as horseback riding, badminton, cycling, ice skating and Tai Chi. Dancing was also a great love; wherever there was music playing, you would find Helen. Ron and Helen met at a dance, which lead to a life-long waltz. Her creative side included sewing, knitting and painting, along with a good putter in the garden. Helen was bitten by the travel bug, and in her lifetime she and Ron were fortunate to be able to travel to many parts of the world by land, air and sea. She loved to cruise, and could be found searching the brochures for a new adventure, even before the suitcases were unpacked from the last trip! The family will receive friends at the TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford on Sunday, December 16, 2018 from 2:00 pm. until the time of the Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Stedman Community Hospice, the Royal Canadian Legion, the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
