Condolences

Condolence From: Marilyn Hajas
Condolence: Dear Donna, Martha and Anne. My deepest Sympathy to you and your families at this very sad time.. I had the privilege of meeting John many years ago as I too attended BCI as a student. Little did I know at the time we too would also be colleagues. John always had a little twinkle in his eyes that indicated today was going to be a good day.. and to not worry about a thing. He will be sorely missed. May he Rip. Sincerely, Marilyn Hajas

Condolence From: Greg Snow
Condolence: I started Grade 9 in September 1963 and it was my good fortune to have John Terdik as my first geography teacher that year and better still every year throughout my five years at BCI. He was magical, and inspired me to study geography at university. Alas, I was soon to realize that it was the way John taught geography that made it so meaningful to me and not the subject itself and those who taught it at the university I attended soon blew out that candle. Whenever I think about who was the best/favourite teacher I ever had it is always John Terdik...and it was the answer I gave anyone who cared to ask. He lived around the corner from us but I only had one chance meeting after leaving school to tell him how much he meant to me as a teacher. I am saddened by the fact that I will never have another opportunity. My sympathies to the family.

Condolence From: Steven Burtch (BCI& VS '79)
Condolence: Farewell Mr. Terdik. I was greatly saddened when I learned of your passing. You were one of my very favorite teachers at BCI & VS. I loved your geography classes and I mean loved. They were always interesting and I felt I was learning something useful. But more than your classes, you were always calm, patient, polite and professional. When I behaved like an immature goof, you would calmly redirect me and my friends to our work. In hindsight, your guidance was like a pebble that created a big ripple in my life. That ripple fueled my pre-existing love of geography which, with chemistry and math, paved a path to my college education and early career in Earth Science and oil & gas. These combined with an openness to geography led me to a larger career in energy, international business and an international life far beyond Brantford and Ontario. I can never repay you for all of this. But I can thank you from the bottom of my heart. Rest well and I will be mindful to be less of a goof!
