April 25, 1924 – October 19, 2018
While was my mother was in hospital the first week recently, our music therapist for the hospital came to visit my mother. On her guitar, Tomoko played my mother's favourite hymn and my mother sang along.
The next week, when my mother's health changed so dramatically, and she was in Palliative Care, Tomoko visited with my mother and I again, as mom slept peacefully, and quietly and gently played this hymn. It was a great comfort to me, and I believe it was a sweet serenade to Mary Marguerite as she slept, woke a bit, opened her eyes, and drifted off again. Here it is:
IN THE GARDEN Austin Miles, 1868-1946
I come to the garden alone,
While the dew is still on the roses;
And the voice I hear, falling on my ear,
The Son of God dis-clo-oses,
And He walks with me,
And He talks with me,
And he tells me I am His own,
And the joy we share, as we tarry there,
None other has ever Known.
He speaks and the sound of His voice,
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing;
And the melody, that he gave to me
With-in my heart, is ri--i-ng-ing...
Chorus...And He walks with me, and He talks with me...
I'd stay in the garden with Him, Tho the night around me be falling;
But he bids me go--thru the voice of woe,
His voice to me is ca--al-ling...
And He walks with me, And He talks with me,
and He tells me, I am His own....
And the joy...we share, as we tarry there,
None other has ev-er known!
