After a lengthy illness, surrounded by his family at St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre, Brantford on Sunday April 22, 2018. Russell Kenneth Thoman in his 87th year. Beloved husband for 42 years of Lenore. Loving father of Brian and his wife Nancy, Jennifer Woolley (the late Peter), and Michael and his wife Sacha. Loved grandpa Russ to Scott, James, Macgregor, and Colton. Brother of James and his wife Nikki, and Alexis. Russell was a graduate of Queens University, he loved competition in any form and played for the Queen’s Golden Gaels before being drafted to play professional football with Winnipeg and Calgary. He loved and enjoyed all types of sports. Russ and Lenore enjoyed travelling, skied extensively, and also sailed competitively on Lake Ontario. They moved to Brantford 24 years ago and were active members of the Brantford Golf and Country Club. Russell was the owner and former operator of Elmwood Ford, Mississauga. A special thank you to Dr. John Hadley, the staff and volunteers at St. Joseph's Lifecare Centre - Chestnut Lane for their kind care of Russ throughout his illness. Cremation has taken place. A Funeral to celebrate Russell’s life will be held at the TOLL FUNERAL HOME, 55 Charing Cross Street, Brantford on Friday April 27, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. The celebration will then continue with family and friends invited to the Brantford Golf and Country Club, 60 Ava Road, Brantford. Donations to St. Joseph’s Lifecare Centre appreciated.
